For the seventh year in a row, the Rice University Police Department donned running gear as part of the Law Enforcement Torch Run in support of Special Olympics Texas. Starting at the heart of Rice's beautiful campus, RUPD participants ran a torch through campus and on toward their destination at the University of Texas in Arlington, where the Special Olympics Summer Games were held. Along the way, officers from Navasota, College Station, Brenham, Conroe, Huntsville, Lufkin, Palestine and Nacogdoches joined the pack. RUPD also challenged the University of Houston and the University of Texas at Houston to see which campus could raise the most money — some of it by selling "I paid a cop to run" T-shirts. Dollars to donuts, that's a good thing.
