Who knew that Rice beauty is more than skin deep?

Rice University senior Alex Tran put her Rice education and — best foot — forward when she was named Miss Vietnam Global 2009 in June. As Miss Vietnam Global, Tran will travel to Vietnamese communities around the world to foster cultural exchanges and support community development. She has been prepared for that journey by her experiences with Rice’s Center for Civic Engagement, including service with Urban Immersion, a program that engages Rice students with Houston through cultural and service opportunities, and volunteering with the International Service Project in Guatemala. That experiential learning, available to all Rice students, will ensure that her reign makes a difference. Crowned for her intelligence and beauty, Tran’s warm heart is what really makes her one of Rice’s queens.
