Who knew a Texas legend was brewing at Rice in 1985?
In 1985, Rice University alumnus Brock Wagner began brewing beer in his dorm room — under the tutelage of his resident associate. Nine years later, a business sprang from this hobby-turned-passion, and Wagner cofounded Saint Arnold Brewing Co. with another alumnus, Kevin Bartol. The enterprise now claims the distinction of being Texas’ oldest craft brewery. A Houston-based operation with a penchant for rich, malty beers, it has won more Great American Beer Festival medals in the past decade than any other microbrewery.
