Who knew that a Rice student wished upon the stars — and went there?

DoiRice University alumnus Takao Doi may have stars in his eyes, but you can’t really blame him. An astronaut and Rice alumnus whose Ph.D. dissertation focused on the motion of the stars in the Orion Nebula, Doi carried canvas-printed photos of this middle “star” in Orion’s sword with him on a 16-day mission to the International Space Station last year. Once he came back down to earth, Doi delivered these well-traveled canvases to his alma mater in honor of Rice’s contributions to his education and career. Once the photos are framed, Rice will display this stellar memorabilia on campus in tribute to the Rice alumnus who hitched his wagon to a star. .
