Who knew you could build a better mousetrap in the kitchen?

KitchenIt was once the realm of pizza and pancakes. Soon, though, the building that housed Rice University’s central food service will be used to cook up something completely different — namely, real-world solutions to engineering problems. When the renamed and renovated Oshman Engineering Design Kitchen opens in September, engineering students will use the space to collaborate on a multitude of meaty projects. Thanks to a $2.4 million gift from Rice Trustee M. Kenneth Oshman ’62 and his wife, Barbara, students will dig into a machine shop, a computational area, an etching room with a wet lab and much more. In other words, everything and the kitchen sink!
