It was once the realm of pizza and pancakes. Soon, though, the building that housed Rice University’s central food service will be used to cook up something completely different — namely, real-world solutions to engineering problems. When the renamed and renovated Oshman Engineering Design Kitchen opens in September, engineering students will use the space to collaborate on a multitude of meaty projects. Thanks to a $2.4 million gift from Rice Trustee M. Kenneth Oshman ’62 and his wife, Barbara, students will dig into a machine shop, a computational area, an etching room with a wet lab and much more. In other words, everything and the kitchen sink!
