When, in high school, Larissa Charnsangavej created a list of the things she wanted to accomplish in life, one of her entries was puzzling. That's to be expected, though, considering her penchant for trivia and high school quiz bowls ‹ so when the Rice senior had the opportunity to fulfill her dream by appearing on the TV game show Jeopardy!, she jumped at the chance. After taking an online test and participating in auditions last fall, she was invited to be a contestant on the game show, which is billed as "America's Favorite Quiz Show." During taping in April, Charnsangavej competed against
14 other college students for the championship, specifically pitting her wits against the two contestants from Harvard and Princeton. She captured second place and a wild card spot for the next round, where she lost in the bonus round by just a few hundred dollars. But winnings aren't everything and Charnsangavej's life is just a little bit richer for the experience. So which item on her high-school list will she tackle next? The jury's still out, but Charnsangavej is sure to enjoy the answer to the question. Or, should we say, the question to the answer?
