There are lots of reasons to choose a Rice education: low student-to-teacher ratios, highly ranked degrees, and professors who teach you how to think, not just what to think about. But here’s a reason you may not have considered: Upon graduation, not only are you likely to have less debt than the average student (in fact, 58 percent of Owls graduate with no debt at all), but chances are good that you’ll earn more, too. According to a recent report by PayScale.com, a Web site that collects employee salary data, Rice grads with two years of experience in their chosen field earn an average of $57,900, while those with 15 years of experience earn an average of $105,000. That puts Rice 23rd on the national list for starting median salary and 34th for mid-career median salary. It also means that Rice graduates earn an average of nearly $10,000 more than alumni of any other Texas school. And that kind of green is one more reason to love the blue and gray.
