Who knew Owls were early birds?

Early Bird OwlsIt’s not just a cliché: When local National Public Radio affiliate KUHF-FM tells Rice University “thanks a million,” they mean every word. That’s because a Rice team helped the station meet its million-dollar goal — and exceed it by $30,323 — during the final hours of its fall fundraising campaign Oct. 30. Vice President for Public Affairs Linda Thrane spent an hour on the air, where she and KUHF broadcasters highlighted the importance of public radio and higher education to Houston. Several members of Rice’s Public Affairs team were there to answer the phones as pledges poured in. This was the fourth Rice effort on KUHF’s behalf and just one more example of the generous community service you’ll find among Rice students, faculty and staff — from working with children in crisis and supporting the United Way to building houses for low-income families in Houston’s inner city. And that’s what makes Rice University one in a million.
