Thanks in part to Rice University, Ethiopian school children will be able to reach out and touch the stars. Rice, the Houston Museum of Natural Science, NASA and e-Planetarium have donated a portable, digital planetarium to the National Museum of Ethiopia in Addis Ababa. Known as the Discovery Dome, the system is capable of showing completely immersive movies, and hundreds of teachers across the country are eagerly awaiting its arrival. So what’s playing at Ethiopia’s most awe-inspiring cinema? Specially created shows like “Lucy’s Cradle, the Birth of Wonder” that give Ethiopia a starring role — plus shows on space weather and, of course, a star projection show that places the cosmos within grasp for Ethiopia’s school children.
