Rice University alumni Stephen Fell and Will Thompson didn’t set out to make a documentary about the anti-abortion movement. They were completing an assignment to create a documentary portrait of someone they’d never met, and they picked an activist in Houston who constructed symbolic artificial graveyards. After meeting him and discovering that he didn’t conform to their stereotype, they embarked on further research about the anti-abortion movement that spanned 13 months and 35 states. The resulting documentary, “Unborn in the USA,” debuted at the Rice Media Center on Oct. 19, 2007, and has met with critical acclaim across the U.S. No doubt their work has helped inform the debate over this divisive issue.
